Communities

Eduvators.net communities can be found on the All Products page by selecting the Communities category. Everyone is a member of the “Eduvators Network” community. Click on “Communities” and then “View Community” to enter the community and begin interacting with fellow Eduvators.

Right now, there is only one community. As Eduvators grows in members, additional Communities will be formed. When Communities are added, to see detailed information about each community, select anywhere on its image and you will see a brief description of the community, the number of members, the number of posts, and a list of related communities.

A red circle with a number inside will appear on the community image for communities where a member has already joined. This symbol indicates the number of new, unread posts that are available in the community.

Community Channels

Each community has one or more channels. In desktop mode, the channels appear in a menu bar on the left side of the screen. On a mobile device, to open channels locate and select the “Channels” button under the channel heading.

New Channel Activity

Whenever new posts, comments, post likes, and other activity occur within a channel since the member last entered the community, a red circle with a number appears after the channel name. This indicates the number of new activities within the channel.

Members can follow community channels. Select a specific Channel name/box. It will be highlighted in light blue, and three dots (ellipses) will appear at the end of the box. To follow a channel, select the ellipses and then select the flag labeled “Follow.” A “Following” label will appear under the channel title. A label “Not Following” appears under channels that have not been flagged to follow.

For channels flagged as “following”, the feed from that channel will populate the “My Feed” area.

Community Members and Member Search

In desktop mode only, a list of community members is located on the far-right side of the screen. Also included is information on the number of times that members have posted. The entire list may not be displayed, so to see additional members on the list, locate and select the “load more” option at the end of the list.

You can also search for members by entering their names in the search box next to the magnifying glass icon. The member search function locates members only for the community you are currently viewing.

Feed Search

A feed search function is also available within each community; look for the magnifying glass icon followed by a feed search box. This function allows you to locate posts that contain those keywords.

Community Posts

Not every channel allows members to submit a post and/or only allows individuals with a particular type of membership to post. You will know if you have access to post when you select a channel. If you do not see an option to start a post on that channel, then the type of membership you have does not allow posting in this channel.

If you do have access to post, when you select a channel within a community, your user profile picture/icon will appear in the middle of the screen above other posts within the channel. You also see the box that contains the words “write something” with three dots (ellipses). Select the box, then a “Create a post” pop-up window appears along with your profile picture, and several options for creating a post.

Begin by typing in the “What's on your mind” box below your profile picture. Continue the post message. When complete, select “post.”

Post Options

There are several post options. You can add a color to your post by selecting one of the color icons. Additionally, media can be added to a post. The post dialogue box includes an image icon, a video icon, a text icon, and a graph image icon followed by 3 dots (ellipses). To add an image to a post, select the image icon, a button labeled “upload” appears. The next step is to choose an image and select “upload” to load the image into the member media gallery. The same steps are followed to load other media types (e.g., video, document, etc.) into the gallery. Media from the gallery can be inserted in a post. Refer to the Member Media Gallery in this guide for more information and instructions.

Removing Media from a Post

Within a post, hover the mouse over or tap on (with mobile device) the media item. A red trash can appears in the upper right-hand corner of that media item. Select the trash can icon to delete the item. Deleting an item from a post does not, however, delete it from the member gallery. It remains in the gallery so that it may be retrieved and used again.

Editing a Post

Locate the post you want to edit or change. In desktop mode, posts appear in the middle of the screen. On a mobile device, tap on the channel name to open posts.

On the top line of the post is the member profile image and name. Across from these are three dots (ellipses). Select the ellipses to open the post edit menu.

Hide: Select this menu to hide the post from the channel feed.

Actions on Other Member’s Posts

There are 3 actions you may take on another member’s posts. You can “like” it, “comment” on it, or “save” it to your post feed. These actions appear as icons at the bottom of the post.

Liking Another Member’s Post or Comment. Locate the “Like” option at the bottom of the post or comment. In desktop mode, hover the mouse over the option and emojis will appear. On a mobile device, tap on the option to uncover the emojis. Select the emoji of choice to attach to the post or comment.

Commenting on Another Member's Post or Comment. Locate and select the “Comment” option at the end of the post or under another comment. A dialog box will appear along with your user profile image. Write a comment in the dialog box. Next to the dialogue box are several icons, a right arrow, an emoji, an image, and a gif. Selecting the right arrow icon will post the comment. Select the emoji, image, and gif icons to include one or more of them with the comment then select the right arrow icon to post the comment.

Editing a Comment. Locate and select the comment you would like to edit, 3 dots (e.g., ellipses) will appear. Select the ellipses and there will be two options for editing the comment: Edit and Delete. Select the “Edit” menu option to edit the comment text and/or add an emoji, image, or gif. When done editing, select the right arrow icon to re-post the edited comment. Each comment contains a timestamp so the newly edited comment should have the newest timestamp.

Saving a Post. Select this menu option to “Save” the post (if you are not the author) to your post feed.

What does the “@” Symbol Mean and How Should I Use it?

In posts and post comments an “@” symbol followed by a member name may appear. Using the “@” symbol triggers automated actions. First, if the member has notifications turned on they will receive a notification and email message indicating there has been activity on their post/comment. The post or comment will also show up in that member's feed.

Posting a Poll

Posting multiple choice polls is an excellent method for engaging network members. To create a “Poll,” begin a post. A dialogue box appears with instructions. Delete or type over the text to add your own poll question. Under the “Add” poll heading, select or tap on “Option 1” and type a poll response choice. Repeat this for “Option 2” and so forth. To include more response options, select or tap on the “+ Add option” button. When you are finished entering options, select the down arrow next to the “+add option” button. Polls have 2 default settings. First, people can only choose 1 answer. Second, people will not have the opportunity to add their own option. To change these default settings, select the down arrow next to the “+Add option” button. A drop-down menu appears with 2 setting options “allow people to choose multiple answers” and “Allow anyone to add options”. Select one or both settings by clicking or tapping the selection box.

Videos, images, and other media can be included with “Polls.” To add media, in the “Add to your post” box, select the 3 dots (ellipses) and media options will appear.

Eduvators Network Community

Every member is enrolled in the Eduvators Network Community.

# Introductions Channel

Eduvators recommends that members introduce themselves to the Eduvators Network. To do so, locate the # Introductions Channel in the Eduvators Network Community and submit a self-introduction post. Please keep your privacy in mind when posting any information. Therefore, you may or may not want to include any personal details. What we do suggest you include in your self-introduction posts are: what type(s) of institution you teach at (e.g., secondary school or college or university), what subjects or disciplines and grade level(s) you teach, and particular expertise and interests you have. Additionally include key words or pieces of information others would use to search, locate, and collaborate with you.

Member Media Gallery

Each member has their own media gallery where images, documents, and other media for posts are stored. Each member has limits on the size and number of media that can be saved in their gallery. Therefore, we highly recommend rather than uploading media into the gallery, saving the media elsewhere and share in posts via a hyperlink.

Loading Media in the Gallery

Any time a member is prompted to “upload" media, selecting the “upload” option will open a dialog box with the option to “upload from gallery.” Select the “upload” button to upload media. Each type of media has size limitations, and the size parameters will be displayed during the upload process.

Selecting Media to Include in a Post

In the member’s media Gallery, select the item (e.g., image, video, document) to include in a post. A green check mark will appear in the upper right-hand corner of the selected item. A “Select” button will also appear in the lower right-hand corner of the gallery area. Choose the “select” option, and the chosen media will appear in the post. Because a members’ media gallery has limitations on the amount and size of media that can be stored, another (and recommended) option for sharing documents and videos is to include a link within the text/content of the post.

Issues Uploading Media Into the Media Gallery

Issues loading videos in media Gallery

The video must be in an MP4 format/file. Any other type of video file cannot be loaded.

Issues loading any media in the Gallery

There are size limitations on all media files. If the file is too large, it will not load.

Gallery Media Options

There are 4 options for media that are uploaded in the member gallery: Edit, Download, Insert, Move, and Delete.

Edit Media

The “edit” option allows you to rename the media file. To edit, select the file image, then the edit option, and select update.

Inserting Gallery Media in a Post

Select anywhere on the chosen media image. A green box appears around the media, and a checkmark appears in the upper right-hand corner of the box. Additionally, a “select” option appears in the lower right-hand corner of the desktop or tablet screen and at the bottom of your mobile device screen. Use the “select” option to load the media into a post.

Gallery Organization and Folders

The Gallery is organized similarly to other file management systems you typically use on your desktop computer, tablet, and mobile device. The Gallery consists of a main file storage area for each type of media file. To identify which media storage area you are currently using, locate a title and icon in the upper left-hand corner of the gallery box (e.g., Image, Video, File, or Doc). A file management path is also provided next to the gallery area title.

Creating Subfolders

Members can create folders and subfolders to organize their gallery and media.

Wherever you are in the gallery, the file management path appears in the upper left-hand side of the gallery area. Select the “add folder” option. Additionally, members can create subfolders within folders. To return to the gallery's main area, select “Home” in the file folder path.

About Eduvators Courses

Asynchronous Courses

All courses offered within the Eduvators network are asynchronous, allowing participants to engage with course materials at their own pace and according to their schedules. We encourage you to post questions or comments about courses in the Eduvators Network community #Discussion channel, where you can interact with your members and instructors, fostering a learning community and engagement.

Course Formats

Eduvators courses are available in standard and SCORM-based formats (including microlearning courses).

Standard Course Format. The standard course format is the simplest course format and easiest for lesson interaction and navigation. These types of courses typically include text, images, videos, audio clips, and hyperlinks.

SCORM-based Course Format. SCORM-based courses contain interactive features that require additional navigation steps. One, more, or all chapters and lessons within this type of course may be SCORM-based. SCORM-based lessons are denoted by a video icon and the label “SCORM/html” under the lesson heading in the Course Content menu. Eduvators provides a short course to instruct users on this type of course called Controls and Navigation for SCORM Courses and Lessons.

Most courses (both standard and SCORM-based) have one or more chapters and one or more lesson(s) within each chapter. Microlearning courses tend to be one-chapter, one-lesson courses.

Course Bundles/Learning Pathways

A course bundle, or learning pathway, is a collection of related courses grouped together to help you gain comprehensive knowledge in a particular subject, tool, or skillset. By following a structured sequence, you can progress efficiently and build expertise faster. There’s a pathway for everyone—from the beginner to the experienced user. While a single course focuses on one specific topic, tool, or skill, a bundle combines multiple courses that complement each other, providing a more well-rounded and in-depth learning experience. Upon completing each course in the bundle (including required activities and assessments), you will receive a certificate of completion. Additionally, another certificate will be awarded upon completing all courses in the bundle, recognizing your achievement of completing the entire learning path.

Locating and Starting Course Bundles/Learning Pathways from All Products Page. If a course bundle/learning pathway is included with your membership, open the Course Bundles/Learning Pathways category on the All Products page a “View Bundle” button is indicated. If the bundle/learning pathway is not included, an “Enroll Now” button will denote that another membership level or additional purchase is necessary.

To determine which membership level is necessary, open the Course Bundles/Learning Pathways category on the All Products page, click on the picture of the specific bundle/pathway to open the landing page. Locate the FAQs where the membership level is indicated.

Locating and Starting Course Bundles/Learning Pathways from Member Dashboard. All course bundles/learning paths that are included in your membership level will appear in your member account. Open you account and select the “Bundle Course” menu option in the dashboard on the left.

Structured and Unstructured Course Bundles/Learning Pathways. There are both “structured” and “unstructured” course bundles/learning pathways. Unstructured means you may take the courses in this bundle in any order you choose. You are not required to finish one course before you can begin another. Structured means courses must be taken and completed in the prescribed order in which they appear in the bundle. The second and subsequent courses in the bundle will not open until the preceding course is completed.

Navigating Within All Courses

Course Content Menu. A course content menu appears on the left-hand side of all courses. This menu provides you with a table of contents and a gauge for determining progress in completing the course. All chapters and lessons are listed on the menu. For each chapter, a lesson counter appears at the end of the chapter title to let you know how many lessons are included in the chapter. You can select any chapter to review if there are not prerequisites that must be completed. Additionally, it is always recommended that you go through the chapters and lessons in order the first time you take the course.

Chapter and Lesson Completion Gauge: A “timeline” gauge appears to the left of the list of chapters and lessons in the Course Content menu. Each chapter and lesson has a node on the timeline. The node is empty when the chapter or lesson has not been started. The node will turn blue once a lesson has started. The lesson and chapter nodes will change to green with a checkmark once the lesson and chapter have been completed.

Course Content Menu Scroll Bar: If the list of chapters and lessons in the course menu is longer than what will fit on the screen, a scroll bar will appear on the right-hand side of the Course Content menu. Select and move the bar up and down to scroll through all the information in the menu.

Moving to the Next Lesson. When you have completed a lesson, select the “Complete and Continue” button at the bottom of the screen to start the next lesson.

Replaying Chapters and/or Lessons. To replay a chapter or lesson you have previously completed, select “mark incomplete” at the bottom of the screen. Now, you should be able to re-access the chapter and/or lesson. This may take a few seconds. If it does not work, try refreshing your browser. The button at the bottom of the screen should have changed from “Mark Incomplete” to “Complete and Continue.”

Completing Lessons, Chapters, and Courses

Complete and Continue. Upon completing a lesson and/or chapter, selecting “Complete and Continue” is essential. After completing all chapters and lessons, you will receive a “Congratulations! You have completed this course“ message. If a certificate accompanies the successful completion of a course, and if you haven’t received the “Congratulations! You have completed this course“ message, a certificate will not be issued. Please return to the chapters and lessons to remedy the situation and ensure they have all been completed. Note that completed chapters and lessons will have a green checkmark in the progress gauge on the left-hand side of the Course Content menu if they have been completed. If any do not have a checkmark, return and review to ensure you have completed that item, then select “Complete and Continue.”

SCORM-based Course Navigation

Scorm-based courses have additional navigation and user control options available. Eduvators provides a short course to instruct users on the common options for this type of course called Controls and Navigation for SCORM Courses and Lessons.

Progress Indicator: In the top right corner of the screen, an indicator (appears as a circle) depicting the percentage of the course or lesson that has been completed. This indicator allows you to gauge your progress.
